Thema:
“Zeta and Company: Investigating Measures of Distinctiveness for Computational Literary Studies”
Abstract:
This talk will present ongoing work investigating the statistical properties and conditions of use of a wide range of measures of distinctiveness (or keyness) in the context of Computational Literary Studies. This work is being conducted by the team of the “Zeta and company” project. It has up to now been focused on implementing and evaluating nine different such measures, for example through a downstream text classification task. After an introduction to the topic, we will report on the results of comparing two particular measures taking dispersion of words into account as well as on results from evaluating a set of nine measures of distinctiveness. Future work we hope to conduct will attempt to go beyond single words as the targets of the distinctiveness analysis, and focus instead on multi-word expressions and semantically-defined groups of words.
